Normally, the western world ignoring Islamic violence is par for the course, unless some group of hip white kids have one of their vain and attention-seeking “internet revolutions”. This time, it’s much worse. Everyone is jumping to have blind sympathy for some government crackdown that they have no ethical or religious grasp of. US media had me falling for the same story. The politically active youth of America have transplanted the default “government = bad, rebels = good” template from Egypt and Libya to the Assad regime, when the real threat is another violent Sunni takeover and the institution of Sharia law upon their success. Supporting the rebellion will end only one way, with another rigid and brutal Islamic state. This is why you have to read the article, and not just gasp at the pictures.
